Takeoff was a rapper from the United States. He was best known as the rapper Migos’ youngest member. He was fatally shot on November 1, 2022, in Houston, Texas.

1. Who is Takeoff?

Kirshnik Khari Ball known professionally as Takeoff was born on June 18, 1994 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. His mother also reared him there, along with his siblings Quavo and Offset, who were also part of his immediate family. When he was in the seventh grade, he began to compose beats and working on constructing rhythms, but did not begin producing music professionally until 2011.

He was most known as the youngest member of the 2008 hip hop duo Migos, along with his uncle Quavo and first cousin once removed Offset. The trio has many top-10 Billboard Hot 100 successes, including “MotorSport” with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, “Stir Fry,” “Walk It Talk It” featuring Drake, and “Bad and Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, which peaked at number one (although Takeoff was not present on the single). He was also nominated for two Grammy Awards.

2. 2008–2018: Early work with Migos

Along with fellow family members Quavo and Offset, Takeoff began rapping in 2008. The group initially performed under the stage name Polo Club, but eventually changed their name to Migos. The group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season, on August 25, 2011. They followed with the mixtape No Label, on June 1, 2012.

Migos achieved their first number one single in 2016 with “Bad And Boujee” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, peaking on the Billboard Hot 100 during the week of January 21, 2017.

The Recording Industry Association of America certified the song four times platinum (RIAA). He appears in one of the music video’s background sequences, however he is neither featured or recognized on the song. He said that he was not included on the song because he was too busy throughout the recording process.

Culture, Migos’ second studio album, was released on January 27, 2017, and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, selling 131,000 album-equivalent units, including 44,000 copies sold, in its first week. In July 2017, the album was certified platinum in the United States. Culture II, the group’s third album, was released on January 26, 2018. It was Migos’ second number one album on the Billboard 200, selling 199,000 equivalent units, including 38,000 copies sold, in its first week.

3. 2018–2021: The Last Rocket and later Migos work

Following the release of Culture II, Takeoff announced on October 23, 2018, an impending solo project named The Last Rocket, which will be published the following month. He released the music video for his first song off the album, “Last Memory,” two days following the announcement. The album debuted on November 2, 2018.

Culture III, Migos’ fourth studio album, was released on June 11, 2021. This would be the last album released by the Migos during Takeoff’s lifespan.

4. 2022

In October 2022, rumors surrounding a possible disbandment of Migos arose,based on reports that Quavo’s ex-girlfriend Saweetie had slept with Offset. Following this, Quavo and Takeoff released a collaborative album titled Only Built for Infinity Links on October 7, 2022, 25 days before Takeoff’s death.

A few hours before the shoot, Quavo and Takeoff released a video for their single “Messy” together. Following the event, the video received several million views in a matter of hours and topped YouTube’s trending list. 
Migos’ 2014 single “Cross the Country” peaked at number one on the online magazine chart HotNewHipHop.

Following he’s passing, the album Only Built for Infinity Links by Takeoff and Quavo rose from 84 to 12 on the Billboard 200 list. He’s sole solo album, The Last Rocket (2018), debuted at 189th on the list. Culture and Culture II by Migos re-entered the charts at 193rd and 116th, respectively. “Hotel Lobby (Unc And Phew),” a collaboration between Quavo and Takeoff, peaked at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Conclusion

Takeoff was shot three times in the body and head and died on November 1, 2022, at 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas, which is part of the GreenStreet commercial development. According to Houston’s KHOU-11 TV, he and around 40 other individuals congregated outside the bowling alley after a private party concluded there about 1:00 a.m. CDT.

On November 5, his friends and family held a farewell ceremony for the rapper, and a memorial was formed at the site of his death.
