Ant Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, the beginning of Phase 5 in MCU

Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a bad movie, but it’s atrocious in a way that Marvel movies seldom are. The MCU’s films up to this point have, for the most part, achieved a respectable balance between heartfelt moments, lighthearted moments, and thrilling moments of superhero action.

1. What is Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania about?

Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott Lang (Rudd), along with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), are transported to the Quantum Realm during the course of the movie.

According to an official description released by Marvel, as the protagonists continue on their journey, they start “interacting with weird new species and going on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they believed was possible.”

Peyton Reed, who was the director of the original two Ant-Man movies, is in charge of directing this one as well. Jeff Loveness, who is most known for his work on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Rick and Morty, penned the script for the movie. Loveness is also a screenwriter. It has been announced that Loveness will also be writing the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Ant Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is the beginning which lays the stage for the remainder of the tales that will take place in Phase 5 and Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, primarily by introducing the highly bizarre multiverse villain Kang and his endless duplicates as a menace to everyone in the MCU. By the end of the movie, this results in a number of unanswered questions, and Marvel hints to parts of the tale that are still to come. Yet, the rapid speed and choppy editing of Quantumania left us with further issues, since there were gaps in the tale that didn’t appear to be wholly intentional.

2. Plot

After he participated in the battle against Thanos and helped rescue the world, things have been going rather well for Scott Lang. He is well-liked and respected in San Francisco, where he was born, and he has even published a book that has been popular.

Things are also going well for his girlfriend and fellow Avenger, Hope van Dyne, who now runs her own company and is using Pym Particles to help the world. Things are also going well for Hope’s parents, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, who are just happy to be reunited following Janet’s thirty years spent trapped in the Quantum Realm, although Janet continues to refuse to talk about her time spent in the Quantum Realm.

The only thing that Ant Man has a problem with is the fact that his daughter Cassie, who is currently living with him and his wife Hope, has been detained many times as a result of her participation in demonstrations. She accuses her father of basking in his popularity and not actually doing something to aid the world now that it isn’t under an imminent threat after Ant Man and Hope have bailed her out.

This leads to a brief quarrel between the two after Ant Man and Hope have rescued her. Throughout the course of the talk, she also makes an inadvertent reference to the fact that she possesses her very own super suit, but when her father presses her for further information, she tries to brush it off.

They have supper at the Pym House, and the topic of discussion quickly shifts to the machine that Cassie and Pym have been collaborating on, which they refer to as a Quantum Satellite. As Janet realizes that someone may send a signal back, she goes into a panic and demands that the device be turned off. Nevertheless, the gadget ends up exploding and swallowing in the five, along with some ants that Pym had been experimenting on to boost their intelligence. The Pym and Van Dyne families are knocked out of sync with Scott and Cassie, and they find themselves in an entirely different region of the Quantum Realm than the two of them.

3. Why was Kang The Conqueror exiled?

In fact, this one appears to be crucial to the plot development of the film. Although there are an unlimited number of Kangs, the one that was banished to the Quantum Realm by the Council of Kangs obviously did something so heinous that the rest of them couldn’t take it, and this fact is hardly touched upon in Quantumania. He apparently sought to approach a looming problem differently than they did, with the Incursions (below) being the most likely culprit. And he implies that “everyone will perish” if the heroes decide to eliminate him. The references to his crime, however, are intentionally oblique and cursory.

Eventually, Kang passes away in Ant Man 3. Definitively. Peyton Reed, the film’s director, addressed this in an interview with Polygon. He who fought Ant Man and the Wasp in the Quantum Realm was indeed Kang, Kang the Conqueror, and he has now been defeated. At the scene after the credits roll, the other Kangs affirm it as well. When he was absorbed into a special effect, there is no body. Ant Man isn’t sure if he’s dead or not, and he certainly doesn’t understand the full implications of what happened to him. Yet for our purposes, both that Kang and the original Loki Kang are dead and gone.

Conclusion

Friday, February 17th, you could see Ant-Man 3 in cinemas.

In 2023, the first significant box office hit is Quantumania. Furthermore, it’s the largest movie to compete with December’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which was dethroned by M. Night Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin despite being far less to produce. It is unlikely that Quantumania will be as successful as Avatar, given the lackluster response to Ant Man among reviewers.
